Wisdom from Above’ is the spirit of God resting on us to be perfect in all our ways, to do the will of the Father & to be successful in life.
Bible exhorts us to be peace makers, but ever wondered why at times, we turn out just the opposite. Some of us struggle with using the right words and often end up causing hurt where we intended to bring relief. Rightly captured in
Romans 7:19 “…many a time end up doing evil though we essentially want to do good”.
Not knowing what to say and when, is a BIG problem and those who don’t get this right, often end up causing massive distress.
Does Bible have a perspective on this? Yes! Let’s look at a conversation mentioned in the book of Mathew.
Matt 15: 22- 27 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
Verses mentioned above depict a simple conversation between Jesus and an unnamed woman, but one which is loaded with meaning and an important life lesson. The Canaanite woman’s response stirred up Jesus’ heart causing Him to appreciate her for her faith.
Matt 15: 28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.
The woman’s response could have been different. Yet her instinctive humble, gracious response was counted as ‘Great Faith’ by the Lord Jesus.
Wisdom is the Perfection of Faith. Wisdom is the most important gift that the Holy Spirit gives.
How do we prepare ourselves to receive this Wisdom from Above?
a. Renew your mind – Each time we think evil, corrupt or negative, our brain cells releases toxic substance. This, in turn, affects our responses/ behavior patterns. Science says that the evil affects our brain for life. Bible contradicts to say that when we accept Christ as our saviour, we become a new creature. As we relentlessly submit our will to His will, we constantly renew our mind. The renewed mind shapes our natural instincts, fills us with Jesus-like traits of humility, meekness and love. As our mind is renewed, we wouldn’t need to bother deliberating to say the right things or do what seems perfect to us, instead all that we do or say would naturally/ instinctively fall right
b. Feed on the Word of God – Sing heavenly songs, read God’s word and meditate on it, so that we may open our self to receiving the wisdom of God. As it’s mentioned in the Bible, a tree is known by its fruit. Our life and our responses will bear testimony to what we are made of.
Col 3:16 let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in Psalms and Hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to God
c. Check the source of knowledge – We may get our knowledge from different sources; right insight can never come from a wrong source. A well-known incident that changed the course of history is mentioned in Genesis, when Satan became the source of information to Adam and Eve, instead of complete reliance on the Word of God.
James 1: 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you
Ask God for Wisdom. Follow the Word of God for a life- changing transformation, starting today.
Remember, our Christ-like responses to situations, words, events could be the reflection of the wisdom of God in our lives.
