Living in God’s Favour

Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favor her, yea, the set time, is come. Psalms 102:13

God’s mercy is open and available to be experienced by the entire world.

Most believers live by the measure of God’s grace that they appropriate in their lives. But very few people prepare themselves and work for the favor of God that they can easily avail.

When God’s favor is poured out on someone, it makes a world of difference in his or her life.

individuals who received favor from God

Joseph was a person who received God’s favor;

But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. Gen 39:21

The favor of God upon Joseph’s life started in his house. His father had favor on him. When favor came, he had a dress, a coat of many colors. He looked different from others. God so worked in Joseph’s life that most people who had authority on him had favor on Joseph.

The Bible records Joseph’s story as a slave and through the prison. Finally he became the prime minister of Egypt where he entered as a slave. Favor may not bring short cuts but favor can bring radical destinies.

God led Joseph through circumstances that he could not understand. God’s favor brought him to a place where very few people have been able to reach in a foreign nation.

Samuel had God’s favor;

And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favor both with the LORD, and also with men. I Sam 2: 26

Samuel as a child had a difficult time in that he was away from his family and friends. Maybe Samuel lived a life of solitude early on in his life.

Eli the priest, his possible mentor was not a very good example to follow.

Eli’s sons could have been very bad influence on the child. Yet when children are safe under God’s favor, it is a shield around them from all wrong and negative influences.

When Samuel was of age, he had a very big role in Israel. He was the only person in the history of Israel who was in the office of a prophet, a priest and a judge.

Favor can protect from everything till the divine destiny is unfolded.

Esther has God’s favor;

… And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

Esther 2:15

Esther too had all the disadvantages of a migrant minority community. Above that her parents were no more alive when she was still a little child.

Sometimes it is not the confident personality that brings in the success. It is a need that for the favor of God to flood our life, we need to practice brokenness.

Esther finally turned out to be the queen of the vast empire as God’s favor was upon her.

Daniel had God’s favor;

Now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. Daniel 1:9

Like all the champions in the Bible mentioned above, Daniel too was broken; away from home friends and parents, his heart was perhaps lonely. He too did not compromise on principles of God. He kept himself holy in his food habits and morality. God promoted him as the prime minister of the vast empire where he once was a captive.

When Abraham received God’s favor;

And said, My Lord, if now I have found favor in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: Genesis 18: 3

The Bible records that God visits people. From the tower of Babel to king Nebuchadnezzar, the world over, even today God visits people. The Bible teaches that God visits people and people groups at the most unexpected times to examine them. Visitations ensure blessings or curses.

If we have the favor of God as he visits us, this visitation of God can turn into a habitation by God. Then His presence does not pass away from us. He stays with us to bless us.

God’s presence increased upon Abraham’s life as Abraham found favor with God.

When Israelites received God’s favor;

And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty: Exodus 3: 21

After about 400 years of slavery in Egypt, the Israelites were being delivered.

If they left without favor, they would be delivered from labor and pain, from slavery and bondage. But God decided to give them favor and lo here they come out with great wealth, new dress and abundant joy.

Wealth generation is a result of God’s favor.

When Moses lacked favor;

And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favor in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me? Numbers 11:11

For most part of his life, Moses recognized God’s favor upon his life.

Favor can be such a shield upon our lives that problems and stress do not flood over us.

When Moses the man of God saw that stress was starting to take a toll on him, he prayed seeking the reason for the draining away of God’s favor that was strong upon his life.

Moses realized that he was productive, efficient and effective always when God’s favor was evident.

The ultimate route map to God’s favor is to praise the Lord!

Another word denoting the word ‘favor’ in the Bible is the word ‘lovingkindness’.

Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

Psalms 63:3

Let us prepare ourselves and praise God to maximize God’s favor on our lives.
