Man loves shortcuts to anything he does. This is an age-old habit that he picked up from the advice of the serpent. Serpent gave him the short cut to become “God-like” (by eating the forbidden fruit.) (Gen. 3:5). Later he realized that it was a wrong idea.
Deep in his heart man always craves for:
A shortcut to reach his home by the road, a shortcut to make lots of wealth and money, a shortcut to inherit his ancestral property, a shortcut to sit on the seat of power, a shortcut to take over his father’s or partners business, a shortcut to find a beautiful or rich life partner, and even a shortcut to enter heaven.
A gardener who wants to raise a rose garden has two ways to do it:
1. Grow rose plants from its seeds: Growing rose plants from its seeds is a long process. It needs lot of patience and hard work. Seed grows into a plant and after that you have to nurture that to see that it has healthy growth till it blooms. In the normal course it will take about two years to get the results. (Who has the patience?)
2. Grow rose plants from cuttings: Ah! Here is the shortcut! Choose the mother plant, which is happily smiling at you with the full bloom of beautiful flowers. Then come with your shears, cut off its well grown branches. Now transfer them to your own field. Plant them and watch them grow with very little care. Growing them this way is easier and many resort to this plan.
Now a days (may be earlier also) the methods practiced for planting churches are more or less similar to this. Many people choose the shortcut method. Oh! Their garden blooms in a short period. Planting another church is for the glory of God, but the methods chosen often saddening. It hurts the people who worked hard for growing the mother plant. It is a shortcut to please Satan who tries his best to split the kingdom of God.
Jesus said: “I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener.” (John 15:1.)
The garden, the Church, belongs to God wherever it is and whosoever works for it. God cannot destroy it for it will destroy the believers who believed His Son to get everlasting life. Let His kingdom come and let His will be done.
As far as the mother plant is concerned, it will remain unperturbed in its place and watch its children, the branches growing wherever they are. It behaves like the genuine mother who did not allow King Solomon to cut her child into two but wanted it to live.
It remains there and watches the new plants grow and spread their fragrance all over the land.
After all that is the purpose of its life, given by its Master…!
