WAITING for about ten months so that I am born on this earth,
Waiting for a few more, long and anxious moments to hear my cry,

Waiting for me to open my eyes and look at you and the world around,
Waiting for me to eat solid food, making me strong, so that I crawl,

Waiting for me to learn to make some sounds, cry and laugh,
Waiting to grow stronger legs for me to stand, walk, and run,

Waiting for a year and a bit more for me to say mama and papa,
Waiting for me to brush my teeth, clean myself, eat more and grow,

Waiting for me to return home, eat my meal, pray on time, sleep on time,
Waiting to practice good manners, good habits, and be good to others

Waiting for me to grow up and put me in the school, and in the Sunday school,
Waiting to be born again, join the church, practice worship in spirit and truth,

Waiting to get my degree, and a job, good spouse and children,
Waiting even for them to grow and make a happy family,

Waiting and praying and waiting patiently for all this to happen in my life,
Waiting for others in the family to grow, waiting for everything on the earth,

“Honor thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long on the land”
Says the Bible (Ex.20:12), and I did honor both of you and I live longer to see that,

It is time now, my mother, for you to rest, God has called you back to wait with him,
Having gone early, waiting is what you do in heaven too, for me to enter Glory.

                                                                                                            -Your affectionate child
